In homes across the world, a familiar scene plays out almost every evening. A parent sits beside their child during homework time, trying to encourage focus while the child’s mind seems to drift elsewhere. The work takes hours. Frustration builds. The child feels pressured, and the parent wonders what they might be doing wrong.
But according to child development specialist Harshad Rajkumar Walde, the issue is rarely about laziness, intelligence, or discipline.
“The real problem,” he explains, “is that most children are expected to perform academically without ever being taught how their brain actually works.”
Walde is the Founder and Director of School of Brain, a child development institute based in Nagpur that focuses on cognitive training, emotional intelligence, and what he calls “360-degree brain development.” Over the past eight years, his programs have reached thousands of children and parents across India and internationally, including the USA, UAE, UK, Thailand, and Singapore.
His mission is simple but powerful: help children understand and train their minds so learning becomes easier, faster, and more enjoyable.

The Modern Challenge for Young Minds
Today’s children are growing up in a vastly different environment than previous generations. Their days are filled with school pressure, digital distractions, packed schedules, and constant exposure to information. While these factors can stimulate learning, they can also overwhelm developing brains.
“Children today are highly stimulated but rarely trained in skills like focus, memory, emotional regulation, or creative thinking,” says Walde.
Traditional education systems often emphasize results — marks, rankings, and performance — but spend very little time teaching cognitive skills that support learning itself. As a result, many children who are naturally curious and capable struggle simply because they lack the right mental tools.
A Holistic Approach to Brain Development
School of Brain addresses this challenge through an integrated model that focuses on strengthening multiple aspects of a child’s development at the same time.
The institute’s approach combines cognitive training, memory development techniques, emotional intelligence practices, mindfulness exercises, and personalized learning strategies. The goal is not only academic improvement but also confidence, self-awareness, and emotional balance.
Programs offered by the institute include memory enhancement training, speed reading techniques, creative thinking exercises, mindfulness and meditation sessions, and specialized counselling support for families facing behavioural or learning challenges.
Another component is DMIT (Dermatoglyphics Multiple Intelligence Test) analysis, which examines fingerprint patterns to understand potential learning styles and cognitive strengths. According to Walde, this helps parents gain insight into how their child absorbs information best.
“Every child has a unique intelligence pattern,” he says. “When parents and teachers understand that pattern, learning becomes much more natural.”
The Role of Brain Training
One of the concepts often discussed within the institute’s programs is mid-brain activation, a training approach aimed at strengthening communication between different regions of the brain. Supporters of this method believe it can improve concentration, intuition, and memory when combined with structured cognitive exercises.
While research on such methods continues to evolve, Walde emphasizes that the broader goal is helping children develop stronger mental habits.
“Brain training is not about shortcuts,” he explains. “It’s about helping children build focus, imagination, emotional stability, and the confidence to explore their abilities.”
Simple Changes Parents Can Start Today
Based on years of working closely with families, Walde suggests that parents can begin supporting brain development at home with a few simple practices.
Creating consistent morning routines that include breathing exercises or quiet reflection can help children start the day with a calm and focused mind. Limiting passive screen time and encouraging creative activities such as puzzles, drawing, or reading can strengthen attention spans.
Equally important is the way parents communicate with their children. Praising effort rather than intelligence helps children develop resilience and a willingness to learn from mistakes.
Sleep and physical activity also play critical roles. Adequate rest supports memory consolidation, while daily movement stimulates the release of brain-supporting chemicals that help form new neural connections.
Perhaps most importantly, Walde encourages parents to listen carefully to their children.
“When a child feels emotionally safe and understood, their brain becomes much more open to learning,” he says.
Changing the Conversation Around Education
As awareness of cognitive development grows, more parents are beginning to look beyond traditional tutoring and academic coaching. Instead of focusing solely on grades, they are exploring ways to strengthen the underlying skills that make learning possible.
For Walde, this shift represents an important evolution in parenting and education.
“Children are naturally curious and intelligent,” he says. “When we give them the right tools to use their brain effectively, we often see remarkable transformation — not just in academics, but in confidence, creativity, and happiness.”
As families around the world search for better ways to support their children’s growth, the idea of training the brain — not just filling it with information — may soon become a central part of modern education.
And for many parents, that shift could make all the difference.
